Jammie Time

My son made me cry this evening. You may know that his favorite book is "Pajama Time" by Sandra Boynton. We read it pretty much ever night. Tonight, we let Chris read aloud, instead of our usual method of having him fill in the blanks. His words are in quotes, the real words regular. In case you're wondering why it made me cry, reading a book like this is a totally normal nearly 3 year old thing to do. And this was Chris's first time.

"Moon is up. S'Detting Yate. Saybrate. Jammie Time!" The Moon is Up. It's getting late. Let's get ready to celebrate. It's Pajama Time.

"Puyon bolloms. Puyon Tops. Sabe Say Jammie Bop! Jammie Time!" Pull on the bottoms. Put on the top. Get yourself set to pajama-dee-bop-It's Pajama Time!

"Summer old. Summer new. Esa ret. Summer boo! Jammie Time!" Now, some are old and some are new. Some are red and some are blue.

"Somper fuzzy. Somper not. Eser Jammy Where Where Dot. Jammie Time!" But we can all pajammy in whatever we've got. It's Pajama Time! Ooooo yes, It's Pajama Time. (After we said Ooo yes, since he forgot it, he repeated Ooo yes, JAmmie time. Then he kept reading, it was so cool!)

Somper pint. Somper dreen. Isa Uddie-est you seen." Some are pink and some are green. Some are the ugliest you've ever seen.

"Stripey. Po'Dot! Some stripey, or po'dot! Jammie Time!" They might be stripey, or polka dot. But we can all pajammy in whatever we've got. It's pajama Time!

Pajammy to the left. Pajammy to the right. Jamma Jamma Jamma Jamma P! J! Everybody's wearing them for dancing tonight. Jamma Jamma Jamma Jamma P! J! (He didn't know this page, the only one he didn't, because we usually sing this one without fill in the blanks, but he joined us in the jamma jamma chorus.)

"All o'woom a yine, jammies so fine. Jammie Time!" Now all around the room in one big line, wearing out pajamas and looking so fine. It's Pajama Time!

"Hop a bet. Tun a yight. Happy dreams night. Jammie Time! Hush Hush Jammie Time. Shhh. Dood night. Seep Tight." Hop into bed. Turn out the light. You can have a party in your dreams tonight. IT'S PAJAMA TIME! hush hush It's Pajama Time! hush hush It's pajama time. Shhhhhh. Good night. Sleep tight.

The End

Cathy, this is still my favourite bedtime story. We don't even have the book any more; we passed it along to another family. But we still sing all the words (we've set them all to a tune in our house) as we march, shimmy and shake up the stairs to go to bed. Love it!
Congrats to Chris for reaching this milestone!
